What is Fifth Grade Committee?
Being a 5th grader is a 'big deal' for Village View students. It's a status that they've worked hard to achieve that comes with 'special' privileges and events that they've looked forward to since Kindergarten. The Fifth Grade Committee a group of 5th grade parent volunteers who work together with the school staff to ensure that every child has an extra special 5th grade experience during their last year at Village View.
What are some of the special 5th grade programs and events?
The teachers and staff plan fun events for the 5th graders throughout the year. Some include Roller Skating outings, Obstacle Course, Volley Ball Game, Field Day and a trip to to somewhere special. Parent volunteers are needed to help chaperone and take photos for the memory book. The kids look forward to these events as part of becoming official 5th graders at Village View.
The Fifth Grade Committee also helps plan the Moving Up Ceremony (promotion) which takes place at the end of the year. Parent volunteers are responsible for planning the event, creating invitations and decorations, coordinating refreshments and overseeing the logistics of the ceremony.
What else does the 5th Grade Committee do?
One of the biggest undertakings of the 5th Grade Committee is the creation of the 5th Grade Memory Book. This involves collaboration between parents, teachers and volunteers. Some of the responsibilities include collecting, organizing and selecting photos submitted by parents, obtaining and organizing information for each student page, designing and creating layouts for the book, as well as working with the 5th grade teachers to publish content submitted by the students. The finished product is a professionally published yearbook for students and families to cherish for years to come.
The Fifth Grade Committee is also responsible for creating custom t-shirts for the students. The t-shirts will be worn by 5th graders for their panoramic photo, Field Trips, Skate Day, and on Field Day - another Village View tradition that the children look forward to and enjoy tremendously.
Would you like to get involved?
The success of the 5th Grade Committee is driven primarily by parent volunteers. We understand that not everyone will be able to or interested in being a part of the committee, however, we're hoping that those that are will volunteer as little or as much time as possible. We will be holding meetings periodically and will be creating sub-committees to oversee the various initiatives (i.e., memory book, t-shirts, Moving Up ceremony, etc).
